FSK Facing
If you’re looking for insulation that offers more than just temperature control, FSK facing insulation is a smart upgrade. Commonly used in commercial, industrial, and residential applications, FSK-faced insulation provides enhanced fire safety, moisture control, and durability—all while maintaining strong thermal performance.
Key Benefits of FSK-Faced Insulation
Built-In Vapor Barrier
Controls moisture movement and helps prevent condensation—ideal for crawl spaces, basements, and HVAC systems
Fire-Resistant Surface
FSK facing is often classified as Class A fire-rated, helping meet fire safety codes
Radiant Heat Reflection
The foil layer reflects heat, improving energy efficiency in both hot and cold climates
Enhanced Durability
The scrim-reinforced layer adds tear resistance and holds up in high-traffic or exposed areas
Easy Identification & Code Compliance
FSK facing is often labeled with key information to assist with inspections and code documentation
What Is FSK Facing?
FSK stands for Foil-Scrim-Kraft, a specialty facing that’s applied to fiberglass or mineral wool insulation batts or rolls. Together, these layers form a durable, fire-retardant barrier that helps meet building codes and performance requirements in demanding environments.
It consists of:
01
Foil
Reflects radiant heat and acts as a vapor barrier
02
Kraft
Paper layer that makes the facing easier to handle and install
03
Scrim
Reinforced fiberglass mesh that adds strength
Thermal Protection with Built-In Fire and Vapor Resistance
Attic air quality is vital for a healthy home. Poor ventilation traps heat and moisture, causing mold, allergens, and higher energy bills. Proper ventilation, moisture control, and regular checks for mold or pests help maintain clean air and comfort.
Common Uses for FSK-Faced Insulation
Crawl Spaces & Basements
Prevents moisture buildup and radiant heat loss in semi-exposed environments
Mechanical & HVAC Ductwork
Adds insulation while serving as a flame-resistant, reflective surface
Commercial Buildings & Warehouses
Meets strict energy and fire codes for wall, ceiling, and roof assemblies
Metal Buildings
Helps control condensation while adding fire and thermal protection
Professional Installation Matters
